My name Is Hayley Dun I'm 26 years old and born and raised in the small town of Nowra, which is 2 hours South of Sydney. My father has been a firefighter all my life, and growing up in that environment is what inspired me to chase the dream. During my childhood experience at my local Fire Station there was only 1 female. As a young girl I found this particularly inspiring to see a female working in what society has us to believe a "man's world". I knew growing up that I wanted to be someone to break the moulds and stereotypes.
I currently work in the Emergency Services Industry with Fire and Rescue NSW as a retained firefighter (since April 2016) and as an Emergency Response Officer with Opstar PTY LTD which provides a Search and Rescue, Medical and remote firefighting capability for the Department of Defence at the Fleet Air Arm at HMAS Albatross in Nowra. (Since May2016) Within Opstar I do aviation firefighting and work alongside in our contract CHC helicopters.
I would love to play a more active role in empowering and supporting women in or wanting to pursue a career in firefighting. It has been a long-term goal of mine to become a part of the WAFA Board as I feel it's a great platform and support network for all to be assisted and supported in their current roles or pursuing careers. In my spare time I enjoy keeping up with health and fitness and self-development and improvement for my career goals.
The Gender Balance Overview of Australasian Firefighters 2015 is a WAFA initiative to establish the current state of... play for all Fire Agencies within Australasia....
As a base we hope it will encourage Agencies to set statistical objectives for gender balance and, in turn, improve all diversity reporting.
