Steve has been a fire and emergency service officer for 32 years, commencing his career with the Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) prior to gaining a position with Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) in Cairns. Steve has served in both fire and rescue and rural operational environments in both rural and metropolitan regional locations including special operations and disaster management response and recovery. Steve has had the opportunity to lead many state, inter-state and international responses to emergencies and disasters, culminating with deployments to the United States, Singapore and Casey Station Antarctica.
Steve was appointed to the Assistant Commissioner Northern Region role on 1st January 2016.
Steve is an Australian Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Taskforce Manager and has undertaken deployment both internationally and intra-state.
In 2011 Steve was awarded the National Emergency Medal and holds a broad range of qualifications including a Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management, a Graduate Diploma in Executive Leadership and an Advanced Diploma of Public Safety and is currently in his final year of a Bachelor of Emergency Service degree.

As a base we hope it will encourage Agencies to set statistical objectives for gender balance and, in turn, improve all diversity reporting.
